The Upcoming MLB The Show 19 Closed Alpha Demo

It appears teams are placed in tiers when you start your franchise mode. The tiers appear to be: favorites, contenders, underdogs, and longshots. Again, all of the information isn't available, but it seems teams in each tier will have different goals and objectives. This screen with Babe Ruth was really intriguing. Based on what we see on the screen, it looks as if The Show will feature a Player-Lock-geared single-player experience that tasks you with reliving the greatest moments in the careers of a variety of legends.

It doesn't seem like the Franchise mode will be getting much love in MLB 19 the ability to negotiate contract extensions is the only addition that Sony San Diego called out in a schedule of its upcoming information reveals. But the trailer does suggest that further changes are on the way for Road to the Show, a mode that the studio overhauled last year. Early on, the video features shots of at least one new off-the-field interior environment (a bedroom) and a new training minigame (lifting weights). A skill tree with four branches of personality traits would also be a new element of the RTTS experience. Finally, it appears that Sony San Diego has tweaked the way that in-game challenges function in the mode.

Basically, if I've played 6 years with an RTTS player I created, and he's still saved on my hard drive, rather than start over from scratch when I get MLB The Show 19, I can resume his career with the same rosters, stats, look, etc. More than any other genre, sports video games depend on returning customers. With annual releases still a thing for most of the top series, you'd think each developer publisher would do everything in their power to get fans vested in the franchise and to remove the year-to-year mindset.

As lovely as the list of legends is already, there are at least 22 others that should be in the game. As you'll see as you read through this list, I'm hoping the theme of this year's new legends is forgiveness. I don't want to worry about steroids and other non-baseball related stuff. I'm not going to go in-depth on all of them, but I will state the case and best year for 6 of them. They AREN'T RANKED because I believe all of them are equally deserving. I'm hoping to see half of the men listed below make an appearance in MLB The Show 19. If you are chosen, Sony will notify you by mid-December via PlayStation Message. The alpha is only available in North America, and it will be available for pre-download.

We may still be in the dark about where Bryce Harper will take his talents next, but here's something we definitely know that should get baseball fans excited for the new season: The 26-year-old All-Star outfielder is gracing the cover of MLB The Show 19.
